Using MIRA

Uploaded Image: unknown.png
The Department has a fixed number of MIRA remote control setups. For Apple users the MIRA software enables the apple remote (standard feature with newer macs) to communicate with nearly any software by way of a remote IR signal. The department version of the MIRA software comes configured for many programs including iview. All department Instructor Stations will have MIRA software and have an IR receiver and Apple remote there for your use. Please help maintain this system by keeping track of these items. Should you need to borrow either an Apple Remote or another IR receiver check with the Visual Resources Library. Any mac that is made prior to 2006 will not have the IR capability built in and will require the use of an IR reciever.

You will need one of these three options:

If you need MIRA for your teaching make a request to the Department Chairperson and specify which option. If you use other platforms or have other needs let the Chairperson know.

There are some known problems with the use of the 'menu' button on the Apple Remotes. Apple's Front Page software may conflict with MIRA causing two actions to happen at once: MIRA application menu shows while Front Page brings up it's rotating set of application icons (itunes, dvd player . . .). If you have this problem follow the instructions at: http://twistedmelon.com/mira/faq.html#faqsu2007004.

Detailed controls

If you wish to review the controls in MIRA select it in the System Preferences window. You may also add controls for most software programs here or program your version of MIRA to do other things.
