our discussion of KwonValidity now comes with the price tag of explanation of intention. The intrinsic value of artist within the greater public sphere is quantifiable based on the rationality of intention, (on behalf of the project). Directly identifying the components of intent, placement, and accessibility give greater placements of value. Public Art becomes an enactment of the perceived notion of what constitutes action for the greater good. The form is negotiable; however it is shaped by ideas of public space. Different ideas of public space are pushed to the forefront of legitimizing the formation of public art. Two ideas are; public space is thought to be shared and “enjoyed” contrasted with public space is a forum for dialogue and discourse. It is my opinion that the role of artist in the public sphere must diversify and integrate for successful “public art” to take place. Therefore artists must take roles in the community that shape the common space, action, and perception in an ongoing manner, not just as an additional component. They must attach and imbed themselves in professional roles, personal interests, and activist positions to work within a framework that is more expansive then self interest. Otherwise artists are still working in a singular sense. This is not to say that I do not believe in artists working in a self indulgent manner I just believe that public art is not the place for this type of action yeah that's what i got. jenn
