Laurie Anderson
Laurie Anderson graduated with a degree in Art History from Barnard College in 1969. In 1972 she graduated from Columbia University with an MFA in sculpture. During the 1970s she toured extensively, throughout the United States presenting her own unique brand of performance art. During 1983 she performed in the United States and Europe, and in 1986 released the film "Home of the Brave". In 1987 she received an Honorary Doctorate from Philadelphia College of the Arts, and in 1996 received honorary degrees from Cal Arts and the Pratt Institute. In 1994 HarperPerennial published "Stories from The Nerve Bible" and in the early 1990s Anderson presented "The Nerve Bible" in performance throughout the United States and Europe. In November of 2003 the Musée Art Contemporain of Lyon France produced a touring retrospective of Laurie's work, encompassing installation, audio, video and art objects that spanned her career from the 1970's to her most current works. The show was first exhibited in Lyon from March 6 - July, 2002 and then moved to the Museum Kunst-Palast in Düsseldorf, Germany from May - October 18, 2003. This show will continue to tour european museums through 2005.
