As American citizens, I have found that we do not view ourselves in the same way that outside countries do. We see ourselves as this illusive utopia with every opportunity to do essentially anything we want. Everything is bigger, bolder, and better. In the videos, I found that some artists tended to embellish these extravagant features. Andy Warhol did this with his silk screenings of sex idol, Marilyn Monroe. His works appealed not only to me, but to the American masses as well. His bold colors and gaudiness in the works fit the typical American hunger for excessiveness. To other countries, pieces such as his amplified their perception that America is a power seeking, sex thriving, consumer driven nation.

It amazes me how art can have such a profound impact on an audience simply by how it is perceived. If artists like Andy Warhol can project an image of an American ideal that alters how others view us, then what is to say that I can’t too? Throughout the course of my art studies, I have not thought deeply about how my works are being perceived. This has always made me wonder why my art has not broken any barriers. With this new knowledge, I believe that I will be able to further improve on my art and hopefully convey an image that awakens the world around me.
