A few things stood out when watching the videos. Some ideas of America that I remember are the cars and the way that different colors/objects can mean many different things to different cultures. With the American cars it made me look at them in a way I hadn't before. They mentioned how much of a sex symbol they are especially how the tail lights resembled women's breasts and just all the curves of the car that made it so appealing to Americans then and still today. With the colors I remember one woman artist who at one point was looking for something stong to paint so she decided on a horse but throughout any of her previous paintings she had refered to the color yellow because of the colors of the landscape around her. It made me think of other countries and the fact that to some the color yellow means war or death so it was interesting for her to use that color but in a different aspect. Some other ideas pertaining to art itself were a few fo the artists throughout the video. One example like many might mention would be Andy Warhol because the way the narator put it was that his best work was over six years with his themes encompassing death or fame. It just left his dark side to be most interesting. Another example was Jackson Pollack in the begining of the movie when he quoted that he wanted to be nature, not just paint it which with that saying I can see it clearly through his work and how he builds up his paintings to be what they are. One last example would be Claes Oldenburg where he relates to human experience and just the state of being. This kind of relates to myself in the ideas of the video because I think that goes for most everyone in putting a bit of yourself or your experiences into your pieces so that other people can share upon those experiences, too. It's a way of reaching to people and just going back on all of the readings on seeing things and everyone's perspective on things. Even at the end of the last movie and a few of the instillations I noticed were just so engaging and making you think of all the meanings it could have even to different cultures and just maybe what you're to get out of the experience. Each piece we come upon has a new meaning and a new interpretation which makes art so enjoyable.
