Chicago: Colleen Cameron
Chicago Reflection
I was very excited to go to Chicago, especially because we were going to the AI. There's always a work or two that shock me whenever I go there. This time it was Picasso's guitarist, but we had to write about a more recent work of art sadly.
After leaving the AI and eating lunch, we headed to the MCA. I was not particularly thrilled to go there because I don't have much of an appreciation for contemporary art. I find it lewd or I get angry that some artist got away with painting a canvas black. I enjoy looking at artwork that takes pure, visible skill like Giotto's perfect circle - something that must've taken years to perfect.
My friend suggested we go upstairs and look at the Flavin and I groaned at the idea of getting a migraine from trying to analyze fluorescent lights. So I grumbled through the first few rooms and made a left into a slightly darker one that wouldn't be quite as blinding.
I guess I have to admit, I kind of liked it (by the way, I'm not much a photographer. I just took the picture so I wouldn't forget what I was going to write about) . I enjoyed the evenly spaced disassembled rainbow of colors and how each detail of them reflected onto the ground. Maybe because I was expected bright yellow and orange lights everywhere, the cooler colors really threw me off-guard, and were actually kind of peaceful to observe.
