Eliminating the United State's National Debt
Situation
The United States has a huge problem right now regarding our national debt; which is now almost 8 trillion dollars. It increases an amazing 1.62 billion dollars a day. With the current U.S. population of about 297 million, each person would owe approximately 26,850.00 dollars to pay off the debt. Not exactly something that is realistic.
Solution
My solution to helping to lower the national debt and eventually eliminate it would be, for one, to end unneccessary wars. The war in Iraq right now has already cost us well over 200 billion dollars. That money could be much better spent on education, figuring out a viable social security plan (not the idiotic one the Bush administration has in place at this time), or cutting into our national debt. Another solution that would give the government some more money to cut into the debt would be to stop giving us so many tax cuts. I know it sounds bad for us but it seems like every time I turn on the news the Bush administration is giving the rich more tax cuts and spending incentives. That extra money raised from taxes could really be used for other purposes. The government also needs to pull out from third world countries that we have no interests in. For example, all of the food aid that we are sending to countries in Africa and Asia cost us billions of dollars a year, and while it is for a very noble cause, what do we get out of it? We are usually the first one on the scene in disasters in small countries such as these, and when we have a disaster, such as Hurricane Katrina, no one comes to our aid. It needs to be a two-way street. Everyone in the world acts like they hate us, but whenever there is a disaster whose is the first name called upon to help? The United States. And in return when we are in distress we are ignored. It is time to cut the tentacles. That money can be used at home. We have a huge poverty problem in our own country which needs to be solved before we try and help other countries with their poverty problems. Outsourcing also needs to be put to an end. The only people that outsourcing makes more money for are the greedy CEO's of the large corporations who don't need any more money. Outsourcing removes jobs from our economy and at the same time takes money from our economy because the people who lose their jobs from outsourcing have no money to spend. The list for cutting national spending could go on and on; alternative fuel sources, tapping our own oil reserves, etc. These are just a few ideas that could leave our government with excess money to help lower our national debt
Design Team
I've heard of this idea before but all of the ideas in the soultion section are mine. This movement would drastically inprove the United States financially and help out all U.S. citizens.
Realization
This project hasn't gone into effect. It is not even close to going into effect nor is it even an actual proposal. In my mind it is an idea of the most basic common sense, as most anyone can see that the U.S. national debt is becoming an ever growing problem that cannot simply keep being pushed to the back burner. It must be dealt with before it brings our country to its knees. Congress must get involved and pass many bills to enact some of these ideas. We must also have a president who is willing to cooperate and deal with the problem, and I'm afraid our current president isn't the one.
Impact
This project has somewhat of a negative impact on the world, especially the third world countries that we would be drawing out of, but it would have so much of a positive impact on the U.S., its people and its economy that one would have to balance weigh the options to choose their side. The most important thing is not to have the U.S. hated even more by the international community for doing this. Before the project is enacted we must make the international community sympathetic toward our plight and have them understand that we must take this bull by the horns before it gets any worse.
Questions
Some things that I could do to get this project rolling would be to write letters to the president, congress and even the media. People must be made aware of the how serious the problem could get in order to act on it.
