Change Stephanie Behning
Bruce Mau was one of the most inspiring speakers I have seen. He was positive about the world in a realistic way. I think it is hard to think about things on a global scale in regards to change because it just seems so big. Mau works with many global issues, but it is not just about him making the changes, it is about everyone getting involved and making a contribution to global change. This is the only way we are going to do anything to recover from all the damage we have done and in a lot of cases continue to do. I think what Mau speaks about has a lot to do with education specifically and how we are educating students. There is a need for massive change in this area as well. I don't believe that school is beneficially when it keeps the students in this sort of bubble disconnected from the real world and I think it is doing this even beyond K-12 education. How can youth get involved was my question? After all if you are a young person wouldn't it be better to grow up working towards improving the world you live in rather than contributing to the distruction that is already happening. School needs to be more applicable to life that way there wouldn't be this huge number of colleges kids with no fucking clue what they want to do with their lives. The question one should be asking themselves is how are they going to get everything they want to do done in a life time? Mau inspired me to stick with art education because something really needs to change in that area and I am going to work towards it even if it takes forever.
