art21
art21 is the first and only television show to focus on contemporary 21st century art and artists in the United States. Not only does it display their most recent work, but it also explores their influences, day-by-day processes of completing their projects, struggles of physically displaying their artistic visions, and much more. Unlike any ordinary walk through an art museum, art21 gives their viewers an inside look on the lives and ideas of the country's top artists.
The 3rd season of art21 is on its way this fall, premiering on September 16, 23, 30, and October 7 at 10pm (EST) on PBS. This season will feature 18 different artists, all of which display a great deal of talent that can appeal to people of all ages and cultures. Their art is a collection of materials and methods that provoke curiosity, dialogue, and debate. Each hour-long episode will carry a "theme" of Power, Memory, Structures, or Play. The passionate and knowledgeable celebrity hosts this season will be David Alan Grier, Grant Hill, Isabella Rosellini, and Sam Waterson.
The television show is the highlight of the art21 series, however it is not the extent of it. The series is also available on DVD and VHS, a 232-page Companion Book features full-color images of the artwork, interviews with the artists, activities, and discussion questions, and also a season 3 website will be available with new content on the season 3 artists, and also expanded information on artists of past seasons.
