Change Ryan Donnelly

Yea, I was there. I listened to his lecture. I was there the entire time too.

To say the least, Bruce Mau is a very interesting guy, far more than I ever hope to be. What he has done and what he will continue to do is nothing I have ever conceived of. In aspect, I have made various small attempts in my work to make others think, to challenge their logic, but he does this on a much higher level of scale. One thing that he mentioned in his lecture that sort of..hit home with me was that of companies: there is a role for pressure in our society, we as the people, the society itself, must contest the actions of corporations and use force against them. Not literal force as in starting a war or anything, but just making an effort for change, so that they take notice and respond to what we have to say. In doing so, companies operate within the boundaries of our society. Also, we must control and regulate the envirnoment around us, so that it does not proceed to suffer.

Another interesting thing he mentioned was that Americans wont live like Americans in the future, but better. I personally dont see eye to eye with this concept, as it is very radical in my opinion. This quote made me think about all the suffering, starvation/hunger, and oppresion going on in our country. This on top of how our administration deals with our country and our foreign policy. However, I understand that technology may be improved, which is something to look forward too, but not everyone will have access to this, or high paying jobs to afford this luxury, so why does he say Americans will live better in the future? Unless I totally missed something in part of this lecture, I dont necessarily agree with him on this point.

Also, another thing he said, "there is a need to make the rich richer, and the poor much richer." Yea, interesting idea there, considering in our society it usually is, "the rich get richer, while the poor get poorer." I understand he wants to push society it its limits and make people work harder than they ever have before, but I think he is in over his head on that issue.

In terms of Massive Change and his projects, I think he is doing an absolutely wonderful job in trying to make a better world, if only slowly and one thing at a time. Good for him, as not many people can operate at that level of understanding.

Yeah..thats all I have for now.
