la grand vitesse - calder
WHAT IS THIS?
This is La Grand Vitesse - Calder. La Grand Vitesse - Calder is described in a Grand Rapids Press article as a "red stabile 40 feet high with wings reaching upward and slender fins achoring it to the ground". This sculpture's name "La Grand Vitesse" is translated as "the Grand Rapids", or "the great swiftness" and can be seen in downtown Grand Rapids and is lit at night by the lights of the city building.

These two images show the impressive 20 and 30 feet high arches that allow viewers to walk through the sculpture and enjoy a variety of impressive views.
