I'VE SEEN THE LIGHT!

"For You, Leo, in Long Respect and Admiration" by Dan Flavin

Dan Flavin is a minimalist artist. Minimalism is the arts where they deal only with the most fundamentals and basically no fancy stuff. If you look at his art, you can see that it is very straight forward and plain; very geometric. It is intriguing how Flavin's work is so plain yet is very interesting to look at. It is an amazing example that art doesn't always have to be paint or pencil. He uses light as his pallete. Instead of blending the color of the paints, he blends the colors of his lights.

One GVSU student, Katie Pilbeam, who saw his exhibit in Chicago says, "A lot of empty space with a precise arrangement of lighting was particularly interesting for me how something so simple becomes artwork."
