dan flavin by monica coe
My hot Topic Artist i have choosen is DAN FLAVIN, who is a American Minimalist Installation Artist. Who i have never looked at before today and looking at his work i personally think his work is different and cant think of any artist who uses fluoresent lights and tubes to create art.
his work shows a fasination of colour and patterns that can be formed by using straight light tubes that do not realate to a object or subject.
The idea of going into a room with one of his pieces will just be fascinating to look at and you can only be drawn to stare at tonly uses straight lines to form his shapes, which is very structural and shows a udnerstanding of colour and how it can effect the environment around the piece (the walls). i would not say no to one of these pieces being in my house (for free and not in bedroom)
he brings together a combination of various colours and sizes of these lights, he allows the colours to blend toether which can alter the perspective of the surrounding environment and wall.
the idea of creating this type of instilation art is limitless as all of these images can be placed in a variety of interior environments and it can look have different effects on the walls. also there are infinate shapes that can be formed using these flourecent lights, where he decides to go and change the colour, the patern, or scale. if people see them in a room you can be drawn to the images because of its attraction to our eyes.

Dan Flavin Untitled (For you, Leo, in long respect and admiration) 2, 1977.
8ft square acrosee corner, at Leo Castelli.
this is just a example of his understanding of pattern and how the colours red and blue near one another can effect a dark room around the piece.
these web pages will help you understand FLAVIN's work style and about his background, these are easy to use and visit to get a understanding of his work or view other pieces by him
