Chicago Preps
In preparation for the Chicago trip do some web research:
1. Art Institute of Chicago:
http://www.artic.edu
2. MCA Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago:
http://mcachicago.org
3. Also research Richard Tuttle. He is the featured artist at the MCA. His work is very raw and abstract. I often say that if a GV student really learned 2d design and color in Foundations then they visually 'get' Tuttle. It is like a test. So often when work addressed formal things it also is highly pure. Tuttle's work is highly formal, but often includes materials and forms that are culturally dismissed as trash, debris, and of no value. I don't think he's celebrating these mundane things as 'valuable', but requiring us to see that the value is rooted in the experience of the material world. This relates closely to what we're after when we study visual perception in cps. In this way he works within the tradition of painting.
4. Check out the list of Artists/Designers who you might do presentations on. Look for works by them in Chicago.
