I've been reading some lectures by Vilayanur S. Ramachandran, the neuroscientist from the mirror neurons video who talked about the polar bears. He gave a series of inter-related lectures in 2003(
2003 BBC Rieth Lectures The Emerging Mind) that are quite interesting. The one linked
here on synesthesia really relates to our work on the
image and word project. Among other things he claims that he thinks artists tend to have more capacity for associative thinking between sensory modalities (touch, vision, hearing) and that this may be the root of language. This is powerful science that points to the importance of what we are about.
