I think that the way that the Gorilla Girls have found effective ways to spread their message (to undermine mainstream arts and media, to create equal opportunities for woman and minorities). Their use of humor and pop art to spread awareness of their cause, I think is disarming and effective. I had known that women were not presented with the same opportunities in the art world as men, due to the lack of them present amongst the “greats”, however upon learning that works of art were being kept in basements and that a woman earns five cents on the dollar of what a man would make I was shocked. I understood their want to remain anonymous and that was why they were masked, however while trying to listen to the speaker I found it a little distracting, however it was also effective in playing a roll in undoing the way women are usually seen in art, being in it rather than creating it.
