Guerilla Girlz:
I was very skeptical before I went to the lecture and after realized I really didn’t get anything out of it. I wanted to get up and walk up, but I’m a gentleman and that would have been rude to walk out on the nice lady on stage...

This is just a small list of some well respected women that have risen to the top. From listening to the lecture one would think that there has been no significant women in history, I don’t like to look at history in a negative way like this, I have an interest in history because it teaches us what happened and what lessons that can come out of the events. History is a tool to improve the future.

There has always been oppression, racism, segregation between everyone and will always be present, it’s just a plain fact of the human condition. One may think that there isn’t any racism, but they don’t understand how it’s evolved. History has shown how people have come to learn and make necessary changes, our generation has the power to continue this evolution and bring people close together. As time goes on, things will balance out more and more...

I really didn’t like how she asked if the audience considered themselves “feminists.” I truly believe that society needs to get away from labeling groups. Stamping labels or tags onto people leads to more hate between everyone. I get so angry when I hear Wolf Blitzer, Lou Dobbs, Bill O’Reilly, Bill Maher refer to voters as “the black vote, women vote, religious right vote, senior vote, etc.” You can’t refer to someone as one particular thing. Everyone has there own individual characteristics that distinguish us from one another. Just because someone drives a BMW, lives in the suburbs, doesn’t mean that they’re Bush loving Republicans, hailing all that “el jefe” stands for.

Focusing back on “Frida,” I think that she did a great job pulling in the audience using creative and humorous interactive techniques. The “Guerillaz” techniques are very creative and interesting, but I don’t agree with this kind of approach. Yes awareness is important, but without the basic knowledge the audience can’t fully understand the ideas. I believe that education would be more effective in stead of just posting facts. By teaching students how society has been so divided, the change “Frida” wants can be more effectively achieved. It’s harder to change the minds of adults than it is kids so why not focus more on educating the next incoming generation?

It was cool hearing all of the “feminists” cheer, hoot and haler during the presentation, but I don’t think it helps the cause. It seems like every “group” is competing between one another to gain control. It was aparent when the Democrats “took back congress” last November. To gain equality and an equal opportunity environment, people need to come together not divide into separate groups. “Can’t we all just get along?”
