not so important side note about a high school experience
My senior year in high school, I took a Web Design class... Web Design 1 was a fairly good mix of people, male/female ratio was about 2 to 1. Not going to lie, some of the girls in that class did not try at all. They acted dumb and helpless, which really pissed me off. They wouldn't accept my help, only those of guys (half of which also didn't know what they were doing). When I went onto Web Design 2, I was surprised to find that i was the ONLY girl in the entire class, I thought at least one other girl would have joined! Suddenly more pressure was put on me to "keep up" with the guys in the class, not to mention my teacher was a sexist and sarcastic jerk to begin with. But project after project, I got A's and showed up most, if not the entire class of guys. There was a project where we were to create a logo for the New Haven Rockets baseball team (a local elementary/middle school team that my teacher helped coach). It became a challenge... the best logos would go up to the board and they would choose which they liked the best and it would actually be used for the team. Long story short... mine was used and I even got a t-shirt with MY logo on it. I was happy and surprised. We did the same with the High School logo... I spent tons of time on the eagle to go with my logo, editing, re-coloring, etc. When the teacher asked me to copy my eagle for another guy who's "design was good... but it wouldn't even be considered because his eagle is horrible" I was shocked. What was I going to say? I let him use my eagle, but it did upset me that I spent all that time on something for someone else to be allowed the creative rights to call "their own." We don't know exactly who's design was picked for the school, but the eagle is definitely mine and the letters resemble his (but placed where mine used to be). So I guess it was a hybrid between our designs. Nonetheless, I felt the teacher never gave me enough credit, although some of the guys did. :) Proves a girl can make it in the world of guys... it's just a challenge.
