I was not able to attend the Gorilla Girls lecture so i had to see Molly Rieleigh. I think that Mollys lecture was very interesting and relevant to what we are and have done in cps. Her work also applies to all artists in one way or another.
Mollys artwork is very interesting and has a lot to do with the stuff we are learning in cps. For example her work consists basically of taking multiple images and collaging them together. We did the exact same process for the image and word projects. I think that collaging things is a very interesting way to convey meaning without using words. I was very impressed with the amount of pictures that she looks at when making her compositions.
Molly has tons and tons of boxes full of pictures. When she was in california she would attend flea markets religiously in order to aquire new and interesting photographs. Though it is harder to come by random pictures in these flea markets she still finds them occasionally. I know that i didnt really take it literally when you had told the class to browse a ton of images and dont limit yourself. After hearing how Molly does her work, i guess it is a common thing among artists. Molly's work often tells a very interesting story.
Molly is a huge reader. She actually has a ton of books that she takes everywhere she goes. She has used the books in a couple of pieces of hers. I think that because she is such a huge reader she feels compelled to create meaningful stories in her work, much like the books that she reads.
