Attending the Gorilla Girls presentation was especially intriguing to me. I have heard about the Gorilla Girls in the past, but have never seen a billboard ad or any further methods of speaking out. I only knew what they stood for. After watching their lecture on feminism, I can say they it spoke volumes. What they are doing for our society is making people all over the world more aware of the injustices and discrimination that surrounds us. For example, I never realized how much women have been shut out of Hollywood for their contributions to the entertainment industry.

Also, I never fully noticed the lacking of women being displayed in art museums, galleries and textbooks until the lecture. I knew that women were discriminated against and not given the same opportunities to display their work, but I never knew to what extent or the fact that they earn on average 1/3 less than men. Women not being paid the same amount of money for doing the same job as men infuriates me. I would be outraged if I discovered that a male co-worker earned more than me just because of his gender.

Overall, the gorilla girls are an excellent awareness group for colleges and universities. I was really excited and appreciative to have the ability to attend their lecture. It takes a lot of courage for individuals to stand up for a cause and I am proud that they are doing it.
