Before our next meeting:
- Image studio with Kevin Hamilton:
1. Research the art historical source of the images we were using. The images that were projected from the computer on the left had a set of the image studio images that I gave you on CD. Browse these images to find the images we used in the studio. Note their annotated information so that we can site these. This is also a good time for us to discuss issues of copyright and appropriation.
2. Do the reflected writing on the studio and post it to the site. There is a link to this on the front page.
3. Edit the whole set by making selections of a limited set of images that you would put together in an exhibition made from these images. As curator/artist what are the ideas and meanings that you would foreground in your selection? Ashley should have the cd's ready hopefully monday or tuesday.
4. Begin your own archive of images that you might use to reformulate work from. This can be printed images, digital or film. They can be made by you or appropriated. Keep track of your sources. Have at least 10 images in it by Friday. This is an ongoing project that could evolve into a significant part of your work in the studio. Be ready to talk about what you are looking for and how you might organize your archive.
- Reading/Discussion: Please reread the part of chapter 2 that we did not discuss. There are important ideas and terms that we should cover in discussion this coming friday. Also, read Chapter 3 and we'll begin with an overview discussion. We'll probably limit discussion of texts to 1 hour so come with a clear understanding of the important points and reactions/reflections on these points.
- Have your sited image proposals ready for critique.
- Check week 1 assignment to be sure you did it all.
If you need help with any of this please let me know.
