For October 22

1. Critique writing
Please write a statement to go with your work presented in critique. Post the statement on the page I've made under Critique portfolios. You can add text wherever you wish before, after or among the images. The images can be formatted as if they were text. Responders should post a reply-addendum to the artist's statement.

These statements serve several functions: They are a place for you to convey contextual information about the work or it's preferred context of presentation. It is a place to indicate and document your ideas, studio process, and intent in the work. You can also use it as a place to discuss what you have learned (are learning) in this line of studio investigation. Because it is presented on the web (not the intended context of presentation) it can be somewhat of a curatorial statement. Responders reply to, enhance, and document the work, the statement, and our critical discussion.

Post these as soon as you can. Artist statements should be posted at the latest by the Friday following the critique. Responder statements at the latest the Friday following that.

2, Reading/Writing
Chapter 7: Modernism and Postmodernism is even more relevant and dense. We held back on moving on to the next chapter in our reading to give us another week to read and study this chapter. I'm encouraging (not requiring, but strongly suggesting) that each of you post a response to this chapter. What new understandings are you gaining from this text? As always be thinking about its relevance to the making and understanding of images.

3. We'll take down the Image and Space exhibit during the next studio on October 22nd.
