Using the Gallery
Main lower space
The walls are painted with a white low luster (semigloss) finish white paint. This is the standard GVSU white color and is provided by the Gallery. A few other areas in the Gallery are painted with a flat version of the same paint. This includes the East Wall above the trim board and the East wall above the stairs. Care should be taken to use the proper color and finish when painting. The Low Luster paint is kept in the Gallery Workroom. Request flat paint if needed from Gallery staff.
The floor is poured concrete floor which is sealed and waxed to a high gloss.
Upper Mezzanine
The upper mezzanine/hallway is considered part of the Padnos Gallery Exhibitions space. While this space is reserved for the current exhibitor, permission may be granted to other students (CPS or otherwise) to use the space.
Floorplan
Signage
The Gallery provides an allowance for vinyl signage for use in each exhibition. You may order up to 6 feet of 13 inch wide vinyl signage from the
Digital Print Shop Please inform the Digital Print Shop staff that the order is for a Padnos Gallery Exhibit. You are welcome to pay for the production of additional vinyl. Please use care in the installation and removal of vinyl from the walls and windows of the gallery.
Vinyl:
Each show is given an allowance of 6'x13" of vinyl and up to 30x42" of printed poster from the digital print shop. These are charged to the gallery account, but you may pay for additional vinyl and posters beyond the alloted size. Installing vinyl is tricky. Be sure to use the tracking tape. If you need help, you can get a demo from the gallery assistant. If you want to practice, feel free to try installing the "archaeology" vinyl lettering above the workbench.
Poster/s
The Padnos Gallery provides an allowance for posters for your exhibition. You may order up to 30x42 inches of printed posters from the
Digital Print Shop. These posters are provided for display and/or promotion of your Exhibit in Calder Art Center. One large poster or two medium posters can be put on display in the Exhibit and Front Hall of the Calder Art Center. Please inform the Digital Print Shop staff that the order is for a Padnos Gallery Exhibit. You are welcome to pay for the production of larger or additional posters.

Technology
The Padnos Gallery is equipped with built-in and installable technology for use in exhibitions and presentations in the Gallery. Please inquire with Gallery staff about how to request and use this technology.

Pulblicity
The Padnos Gallery maintains calendars for the Gallery and Public Events for the Department of Art and Design
http://look.gvsu.edu/cals. Please email gallery staff at
mailto:padnosgallery@gvsu.edu with details about your exhibit as they become established; title of the Show, exhibiting artists, dates of any events, performances, or receptions, and a short descriptive paragraph about the exhibit. Gallery staff will put the details of the exhibit on the Padnos Calendar and put any public events on the Department Public Events Calendar.
Lighting
Can be adjusted. Be safe, use the "little giant" ladder from the closet. The lights get hot, so wear a glove. We suggest that you work in teams of two when adjusting lighting.
Hanging
How the work is hung should be carefully considered. It is standard to hang 2D work with the center 55 inches from the floor, but larger work may differ. Also consider whether the work should be hung salon style. Use a level or the special ruler (designed by Paul) from the gallery closet.
The Closet:
The gallery closet has all the pedestals and tools you will need to install. Paint and spackle for the de-install are also in there. For the most part, the closet is organized with labels on each shelf for where things go. Please be courteous to the next exhibitor and the gallery assistant by putting everything back where you found it.
Key Exchange
Keys can be left in a visible place in the gallery closet (the door locks behind you). Or they can be handed off directly to the next exhibitor or to gallery staff (Paul Wittenbraker, Rachel Kauff.) If you are giving the key directly to the next exhibitor, please notify the gallery staff. Key exchange should take place immediately following the de-install. Please do not leave the next exhibitor stuck without keys! The keys open the gallery closet door and the sound cabinet in the gallery that includes the large projector. Access to the gray tech cabinet in the gallery closet will be granted on a case-by-case basis.
