Le Corbusier Group 8
Our Initial Reaction
Our site contained the
Recycling Facility and the
Transportation Transit Partnership. The Recycling Facility was worn down and in dire need of repair; the Transportation building, however, was constructed with white brick that had a professional appearance. My first thought was to level the entire site, but one of our team members suggested that since it was a recycling plant it would only make sense to recycle the materials currently available on the property.
We thought it would be important to create a uniform appearance among all the buildings on the property. By bringing the white brick of the Transportation building to the other buildings on the property, the resulting uniform appearance would hopefully encourage respectful treatment of the property. We would also like to clean up the trash on the property. Jane Addams efforts to clean up the neighborhood around Hull House helped the neighbors to feel safe. We would like to encourage a similar feeling on site 8 by cleaning up all the trash and repairing the buildings on the property.
Since recycling and riding buses are environmentally friendly practices, we thought it would be beneficial to make the buildings sustainable.
Potential for the site
Site 8 was definately in need of repair. As stated above, the
Transportation Transit Partnership definately looked much nicer than the recycling facility. I think that it would be a good idea to make the entire site a uniform color at the least. The idea to recycle the materials of the recycling plant to make a new one is definately a good idea, but I think that a white paint job would be perfect to bring unity to the site. If the site was more uniform it would definately add to the appeal for the rest of the community. Who knows, maybe it would encourage more people to recycle if they had a plant nearby that looked so good!
In terms of updating, the transit station doesn't look like it needs much repair. However, behind the white building, there looks to be a bus storage area and that part of the buliding looks dilapidated and in need of a face lift. In order to accomplish this, I think that even a new paint job or new siding on the building would do the trick. The bus storage area doesn't need to be an espeically appealing building, but it should definately look nice at minimal.
