Le Corbusier Group 1
The visit to the Civic Studio was a very different experience that was quite interesting. The project that the studio is undergoing allows the ability for individuals that are not involved with the planning of the city to imagine and create a model for what the area could look like. I did not quite know what to expect when arriving at the studio. I walked in and was immediately impressed by what the studio employees were helping us to imagine. As we walked to our site, the three of us were not quite sure what to think. We were looking at an area that presented several obstacles when considering the possibilities for improving the area. There was the off-ramp for US-131 and several city buildings that are currently used for waste removal services. The buildings are rundown and seem to have been neglected. When we returned to the studio, we sat down and began to examine what our options were. We thought that bringing people to the area by method of building high-rise housing, with a near by park and various commercial buildings, would allow for an interesting and inviting place for people to move. We also felt that building a outdoor amphitheater would add to the availability for entertainment to the nearby residents. This platform that we imagined seemed to mesh well with several of the other groups’ ideas for their sites. I felt that this entire experience was very interesting and different from several of the other things that we have done in the class this semester. I found it to be very helpful and enhance my ability to be creative.
