Word - Word ("identity" and "remote")

"Identity" and "remote" make an interesting combination that can be interpreted a few different ways. One concept is to look at the two individual words as one term - "Identity remote". To me, this creates the image of a remote control that can change your identity. It gives you the sense of being able to change your identity, essentially what makes you you, with no trouble at all. "Remote" can also be taken to mean "alone" or "separated", in which case the work can be viewed as saying even people with unique personalities that are sure of who they are can feel completely alone even if they don't seem to be.

Image - Image (wedding ring and six-pack ring)

The images, taken at face-value, have some obvious connections. Both images are of "rings", but one ring has much more value than the other which shows that categorizing something with just one word isn't enough, more description is needed. Digging into the images a little deeper, a ring as a piece of jewelery is often seen as a symbol of commitment. When placed next to the image of the six pack rings, it can read that "commitment" and "devotion" are both flexible terms. It's possible for the work as a whole to also read as both ideas having little value and being disposable in the way the plastic bottle or can rings are.

Image - Word (mannequins and "Gossip")

The image itself is very unusual. From a distance, the mannequins might be mistaken for actual people. The word "gossip" creates a few conflicts within the work. Most obviously, mannequins are not actual people and therefore cannot gossip or even talk. If they could gossip, though, what would they have to gossip about? Despite their differences in appearance, they are all mannequins; one is really not better than another as they are all fake people. In a way, it makes the idea of gossip and gossiping silly. What is the point in talking about other people when, on a basic level, you are the same as the person being talked about?
