Notes from the Meeting 2.28.2006
Following are things we talked about in the meeting on Feb. 28. This includes some, but not all of what was requested. Please feel free to add to this list or email Paul any corrections. - Paul
Lab Tech
- Going with cs2 seems workable for a 2 year contract.
- We will request that IT upgrade Iview to version 3 in the labs.
- Michelle requests Fontographer for 1310.
- David is going to pass along the plan for 703.
- Matt is going to try to get powerful hardware into at least 6 of the 8 IT-managed classroom clusters (sculpture, graphics, illustration).
Studio Classroom Tech
- Paul will follow up with Dave Chapman on Remote mice for each of the AV setups. We need to find one that works pc/mac and with iview. We'll request that IT purchase one for each station and then keep at least one in the office, the others with individual faculty.
- Sigrid and Paul will connect with Dan Seeley on specifying a remote microphone for 1415.
- Slide library needs a new hard drive for the main image-base computer.
- Paul will compile a list of places we could use G4's that get recycled from the labs. David can add faculty needs to this.
- Matt is going to see about getting a computer in 1311 (seminar room).
Faculty/Staff Tech
- Going with panther OSX 10.3 for Department machines for at least part of the next year (maybe the whole year) seems workable. It will be a bit different from the lab (especially spotlight), but might save us doing one upgrade if we can last the year.
- David and Matt will coordinate dept. participation in any bulk license software plans (adobe package $250-$300).
- We will try to upgrade Iview dept. license to version 3. Paul will get pricing from Iview.
- We'll put forward a request for all faculty who are at the 3 year point with hardware: Sigrid, Paul . . .
Other Stuff
- Paul will follow up with Dave Kruger/John Klein on wireless printing.
- Further conversation about portable plans revealed that Apple is likely to have a $900 ibook replacement - the macbook. We could arrange for software package leasing from Adobe at aprox. $125 per student/per year. We could possibly get a tech agreement contract locally for $120 a year. This bring the total to $1,045, with $245 of this an annual fee. This brings the portable plan much closer to a feasible range. We might also want to include apple's care plan (cost?). Not sure on how to follow up on this?
