http://look.gvsu.edu:8000/cpsspace

I'll be editing these to include a link to a version of your Instructions Project.

You should include a note on at least a letter sized paper that says:

Exporting documents for use in InDesign CS2 (Save Back)

Save Backwards allows InDesign CS2 users to open InDesign CS3 documents that have been exported to the InDesign Interchange (.inx) format. To open these .inx files in InDesign CS2, you also need to first install the Adobe InDesign CS2 4.0.5 update. You can obtain this update by choosing Help > Updates, and then following the prompts in the Adobe Update Manager. Alternatively, the update can be downloaded from the Adobe Web site. Visit http://www.adobe.com/go/downloads/ then click the link for the InDesign Updates.

Be aware that content created using functionality that is specific to InDesign CS3 might be modified or omitted when you open the file in InDesign CS2. For example, variables and gradient feathers (new features in InDesign CS3) drop out.

To export an InDesign Interchange file from InDesign CS3, please do the following:
1. Open or create a file in InDesign CS3.
2. Choose File > Export.
2. In the Export dialog box, select InDesign Interchange from the File Type menu (on Windows) or Formats menu (on Mac OS).
3. Click Save.

   Snow DAy Hurray

Still continue working = even w/o the crit. We won't make the projects due Monday as planned, but have them in the bag so we can proceed with our next project. They'll be due on Wednesday the 6th at the beginning of studio.

Also - Bring in at least one object you consider to be openly curious and interesting. As with other things we want things that don't just lock together with an existing schema, but we want objects that generate multiple and motivated (energized) thoughts that are open yet specific and dynamic.

   From Dean Foster:
I wanted to let all of you know about the exciting workshop that the contemporary ceramics association is planning for the weeks following spring break. This will be held on March 14, 28, and April 4. The work shop will involve going over the process of Raku firing and making pieces, glazing and finally the most exciting part the firing. We would like to extend the invitation to anyone interested. There will be a cost to cover the clay, glaze and firing, but it will be an exciting event and fun opportunity to "get dirty". If you are interested in this please e-mail me, Dean Foster at mailto:artwiz21@sbcglobal.net. The cost will be around $20-30, depending on the number of participants, but I will send another e-mail soon with a specific cost, and other details. Also this is available to everyone at GVSU so if you wanted to have someone from another department come with you, that would be great. Thank you all, and I hope to see some of you at the workshop.

Also, I made this grouping of links for my/our students this semester:

1. Lora Fosberg is the Chicago-based artist in UICA's Race Street Gallery right now. I invited her to come back up to give an evening talk (at the gallery) for my drawing students and whoever else will show up.
She took this idea and ran with it. I'll forward her e-announcement to you. Her talk will be Thursday, Jan. 10, 7pm.

2. The UICA is showing the film "My Kid Could Paint That" from January 4-9. This looks like a great documentary that raises really problematic issues about abstract painting, the art world, etc.

3. Karen Kunc is the printmaker from Nebraska that Henry, David Keister and Dellas are hosting this January. She will come make a print at GV between the 20th - 25th. She's a great lady, working with traditional Japanese woodblock methods. She'll also give a lecture, I'm sure, but I don't know exactly when.

4. VAC lecturer BEAUVAIS LYONS has a website up and running for his ongoing project (ala David Wilson's Museum of Jurassic Technology) - The Hokes Archive. His talk happens on February 5th, Tuesday, at 7:30pm, UICA.

5. VAC lecturer CHIP KIDD has a good homepage of his own, featuring his new book, The Learners, which I'm sure will be the primary topic of his March 18th lecture (Tuesday), in the Louis Armstrong Theatre, 7:30pm.

6. VAC lecturer JOE SACCO doesn't have a homepage, but his publisher (Fantagraphics) has a page devoted to his works. His lecture is March 26th, Wednesday, at 7:30pm, UICA.

studioblog: 6 January 2008

The CPS web site will be run on a wiki. For more information about wikis check out the link at wikipedia. Wikis are collaborative software that operate in an open source manner. Using a wiki allows this space to be treated as a common area in which all participants can contribute to the groups focus; in our case learning about meaning in the professional practice of the visual. Over the time of the studio we'll build a knowledge base and record of our dialogue and inquiry. In this way it will be mediated or captured in a substance.
Remember to check this coweb swiki every couple of days. Check these three things:
  1. studioblog the thing you are reading is the CPS blog. Here I'll post important information or comments on things. You can start your own blog on your id pages. See the "help" page to see how it is done. (the studioblog originates on another page, but is shown here using the special swiki function called "inline".
  2. changes is one of the links that shows up in the menu at the top of every page. It is a complete listing of recent changes. It shows every page that has been changed and the time it was changed. Use this site to keep up on the current state of the swiki without having to look through the whole thing.

-----------

WARNING
Wikis can get hacked and used as pass-through sites for spam. No big deal because we can always use the history function to back it up to the correct spot. BUt, some hackers and pranksters put PORN on such sites. So be warned - if you get on the wiki and there is PORN or other inappropriate media - please let me know asap. You can also help by taking it down.
