He lives and works in Tokyo, Japan and New York, NY
He is both a painter,sculptor, curator, entrepreneur, a critical observer of contemporary Japanese Society and has the ability to pull imagery from consumer culture to produce visually arresting, highly original work.



Murakami created a new type of cultural art, called Poku, where pop and Japanese culture merge into something completely different. His art work is extremely cute,and cartoonish involving anime and media.






Murakami also creates sculptures that examines otaku values (people who collect objects that no one else values). He has created caricatures such as Hiropan and Lonely Cowboy that are alike the action figures that decorate many otaku shrines.
These two creations are extremely infamous.

Murakami's art has even influenced the fashion world. A designer bag called "Eye Dare You!" features a cute, long lashed eyeball incorporated into the Louis Vuitton pattern. His anime creations were also used for an ad campain for Louis Vuitton in Japan. It's called: "Superflat Monogram"
