Gladwell's exact reason for writing this book was to convince readers that our mind has the power to make decisions in a blink of an eye, just as well as the decisions we spend hours of research and studying on.
In his book, Gladwell focuses on topics like "intuitive repulsion" adaptive unconscious, and thin-slicing. These are all ways we process information, jump to conclusions and us first impressions guide our decisions.
Our world is built around first impressions, and in this book it explains the positives and negatives of our ability to judge without thinking.
Examples:
"In the book he describes how a marketing company tested a new 7-up can with 15% more yellow on the can. Taste testers responded that the drink had too much lemon or lime. The company had not changed the drink in any way, only the can."
Ice-cream is perceived to have a better taste when in a round container rather than a rectangular one.
I think the relationship between Blink and artist, is that it shows that we are able to give meaning to every image/object around us.
